If you have kids with ages 10-15 years old and have a knack for taking pictures, then this Photography for Kids Workshop is the perfect summer program for them. Organized by Gallery 7 Digital Studio, this workshop will impart tutorials on the correct point and shoot camera usage and photography techniques that will enhance a kid’s interest in taking pictures with such a simple gadget. This makes a great fundamental step in honing their photography early skills. So start having those acne creams and strike a pose or hold a mini-photoshoot courtesy by your little photographer.

Photo Christmas Cards

I suddenly remembered that my son scored in the Trick or Treat at Greenbelt a gift certificate from The Picture Company for a free photo session. I’ve been meaning to schedule one so we can have our family portrait that I’ll be using for our photo christmas cards this year. The gift certificate is expiring on the 30th so I have to make sure that we free one weekend for this.

I have also started looking for elegant Christmas cards at 123print.co.uk. Unfortunately, I haven’t decided still which one to go for because the vast selection of cards they have on their gallery gives me a tough time. I mean if only I can choose them all but I only got a few friends and relatives to give so just one design should do. Hmm..I’ll go through the designs one more time and hopefully I will come up with my final choice in a while.

Storing Cameras Safely

Cameras especially the DSLRs are expensive so as responsible owners, utmost care must be given to them at all times. I’ve read several helpful articles on the web regarding the proper way of taking care of them and the most common reminder I’ve read is to safely keep them away from humidity. If in case, they are unused for a period of time, better store them in its camera bag/case inside and place it inside a closet or any secured place and not just on top of an unstable rack mount. Further, as a lens is the heart of a camera, they must be thoroughly cleaned using lens cleaning papers or brushes only as they are very sensitive to scratches.

How To Look Thin and Slim in Photos

While waiting for the effects of the best weight loss supplement, do you know that you can master how to look slim, trim and thin in your photos without having to learn Photoshop or hiring an expensive photo retouching expert?

The secret? It’s in the pose. Here’s a few tips I gathered from the web on how to “cheat” your looks:

1. Turn partially sideways to the camera. Plant one foot in front of the other by pointing your toe to the camera and place your weight on your back foot.
2. Make sure that the photographer takes the picture on level and does not snap the picture from below.
3. Use objects like purse, corsage or jacket you are holding to your advantage by placing them in front of parts of you you’d prefer to hide.
4. To minimize appearance of a double chin, pull head forward slightly.
5. Hold arms slightly away from your body. This keeps upper arm flab from flattening out and therefore appearing flabbier (much like thighs do when one sits on a couch).
6. Cross your legs a little to make them look more slim.

And most importantly, just relax, smile naturally and forget about looking thin.

His Christmas Wish

I asked the husband last night what gift he wishes to receive this Christmas and I think he’s dead set to have this one:

Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR Zoom

It was last Christmas when we had our Nikky (Nikon D60) as our common Christmas-Anniversary gift. Since it’s been a while since he updated our lenses, he wishes to add one that has a zoom/telephoto capability. So far, what we have are just the kit lens with a range of 18-55 mm and a 50mm lens. Obviously, we’re just limited to a maximum range of 55 mm that is why this 55-200 mm, which is the cheapest (Php 13K+ at DPOnline) is the ideal lens to own soon. I’m quiet adamant though about the cost. I mean although it’s not as pricey as loose diamonds, we’ve tightened our belts this year as we save up for our house project. But let us see. Hopefully, my online earnings will pick up more towards the end of the year so I can gift him with this.

Here are some more facts about this cool lens according to kenrockwell.com:

Ideal Uses: Perfect for use on every DX digital Nikon. Great sports, nature and portrait lens; there’s no need to pay more.

Sharpness and performance are extraordinary. A lens this inexpensive never used to have the right to be this embarrassingly good. VR (Vibration Reduction or image stabilization) works great; I can shoot at 1/30 at 200mm and get sharp shots without a tripod! The results are amazing on my 12 megapixel D300, and the 55-200mm VR is so tiny it feels perfect for travel on my D40.

The 55-200mm VR zooms easily and precisely. The zoom range is well spaced, and VR works great. It focuses reasonably quickly, but not as fast as more expensive lenses. I have no problem tracking my 2-year-old in action with my D40. The 55-200mm VR doesn’t offer instant manual focus override: you have to move a switch, but for the price, I’m not complaining.

What is Bokeh?
