I asked the husband last night what gift he wishes to receive this Christmas and I think he’s dead set to have this one:

Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED AF-S DX VR Zoom
It was last Christmas when we had our Nikky (Nikon D60) as our common Christmas-Anniversary gift. Since it’s been a while since he updated our lenses, he wishes to add one that has a zoom/telephoto capability. So far, what we have are just the kit lens with a range of 18-55 mm and a 50mm lens. Obviously, we’re just limited to a maximum range of 55 mm that is why this 55-200 mm, which is the cheapest (Php 13K+ at DPOnline) is the ideal lens to own soon. I’m quiet adamant though about the cost. I mean although it’s not as pricey as loose diamonds, we’ve tightened our belts this year as we save up for our house project. But let us see. Hopefully, my online earnings will pick up more towards the end of the year so I can gift him with this.
Here are some more facts about this cool lens according to kenrockwell.com:
Ideal Uses: Perfect for use on every DX digital Nikon. Great sports, nature and portrait lens; there’s no need to pay more.
Sharpness and performance are extraordinary. A lens this inexpensive never used to have the right to be this embarrassingly good. VR (Vibration Reduction or image stabilization) works great; I can shoot at 1/30 at 200mm and get sharp shots without a tripod! The results are amazing on my 12 megapixel D300, and the 55-200mm VR is so tiny it feels perfect for travel on my D40.
The 55-200mm VR zooms easily and precisely. The zoom range is well spaced, and VR works great. It focuses reasonably quickly, but not as fast as more expensive lenses. I have no problem tracking my 2-year-old in action with my D40. The 55-200mm VR doesn’t offer instant manual focus override: you have to move a switch, but for the price, I’m not complaining.

“Bokeh” in photography is related to an image’s depth of field.
When a background is blurred to bring more attention to the focused subject, the blurred area is called bokeh. The bokeh is varied from lens to lens. The images were taken using the 50mm f/1.8 lens or also called the Nifty Fifty.
Examples of bokeh shots are as follows:

Lenspen
A digital camera is a very delicate piece of equipment and not to mention, very costly especially the DSLR ones. It is imperative that proper care must be given for a lasting and durable equipment and of course, to yield the best photography results.
The lens of a digital camera is its eye to the outside world and the most essential part. It is a very delicate element that it should never ever be touched directly with fingers or any other object. When not in used, the lens cap must be put on.
Cleaning the lens involves the use of a good cleaning equipment such as this Lenspen. It is actually a lens brush that cleans gently and smoothly and removes smudges, dust and fingerprints. It is also used to clean camcorders, binoculars, telescopes, microscopes, rifle scopes, night vision and more.
LensPen is an excellent device for cleaning the glass surfaces of any optical device. This clever brush features a retractable dust removal brush and a special non-liquid cleaning element. The LensPen is safe and easy to use, and its compact form factor makes it the perfect accessory to toss into your gear-bag.
This lens brush usually costs Php 295 and is available in our local photography stores such as DPOnline (JT Photoworld).

I haven’t blogged about this but this is the latest accessory we bought for Nikky a month ago. This little
Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control is one of the cheapest and most popular accessory for Nikon DSLRs. We absolutely love using it especially if it’s just the three of us (hubby, little A and me) posing for the camera. We got ours from
DPOnline for just Php 980. Slim wireless remote instantly triggers shutter without disturbing camera. Ideal for subjects that are difficult to approach or for minimizing vibrations. It functions with range approximately 16 feet in front of camera. It offers immediate release mode and two second delay mode.
It is compatible with Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D80 & D90 Digital SLR Cameras.

For those of you who still rely on their SLR’s pop up flashes (like us) when shooting indoors in auto mode, check out this new product called
Lights Tipper. It’s called such because it instantly improves pop up flash photos by directing the harsh light from the camera’s tiny flash to a ceiling or (light colored) wall. It will then softens shadows, reduce glare and produces a crisp, well-lit photo. This is ideal when shooting an object or let’s say shooting your products for online selling. It can be used with Fuji, Olympus, Canon, Nikon and Pentax cameras. Price is just Php 650 at
DPOnline (JT Photoworld)…not sure with the other Hidalgo shops.

Since Mother’s Day and hubby’s birthday are just days apart and we know what gift each of us would make us delight the most, we decided to have this so-called 2-in-1 gift. Meaning a gift for 2 anxious people to celebrate 2 special occasions. Although technically, it’s more of a birthday’s gift actually as the husband has been more than yearning for this. Thanks to our blog money, Asher and I had something to bring smile to Daddy’s face on his special day.

Stay tuned for the pics taken by this new tool.

Mother’s day (May 10) and hubby’s birthday (May 14) is just a few weeks away. Hubby and I are coming up with a joint gift in our desire to further and hone our interest in photography. But…we’re torn which to choose between these two lenses?

A Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 or a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4?
To the experts out there, your inputs please?
