Google and Wikipedia Went Black
Google and Wikipedia are just among the several websites that went “blackout” or dark yesterday. This action was made in protest of the proposed legislations Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the US Congress.
Many of us are clueless what these bills are and it leaves us thinking if it will affect us. In simple terms, these legislations when passed will give the US government more power to fight piracy online. It may sound good and beneficial for technology giants and content owners but if we dig deeper, this will simply destroy the internet as a whole. Freedom of speech is curtailed as websites can just be easily shut down or a questionable content will be blocked.
For example, you’re researching about Nihon Superior and you were lead to a blocked site because the resource site has been sanctioned for having questionable copyright contents. That is what Wikipedia foresees when these laws are passed and with that, people are deprived of free knowledge.
